The Swiffer Scare.

Oie! Has any other mother out there heard about the cleaning liquid in the Swiffer Wet Jet posing health hazards to children and animals?

Good friends of ours left a message to that extent last night, and when we researched it on the net we found, to our surprise, many articles citing the same. Dean just "swiffered" on Sunday! Yikes!

Is this rumor fact or fiction? Any information that anyone has regarding this issue, please post in the comments!

Perhaps this is the excuse that I have been waiting for to switch to a natural vinegar-based floor cleaning solution! If any moms out there have found a good alternative cleaner that works well on hardwood floors, please share.

Truly Yours,
One Shaken SeƱora

I just do what Martha Stweart suggests (try her homekeeping section on her website, it is full of DIY cleaners), 1/4 cup vinegar to a gallon of warm water. I use a swiffer-type, microfiber mop and it works fine.

Thanks Susan for your suggestion! I will check out her site--she always has great ideas! Damn Swiffer and their errant ways!

Hi Joni,

I agree with the Martha Stewart cleaning solution with white vinear & warm water. I started using it on our hard wood floor after hearing from a gym buddy 6 years ago that she's used it to clean her hardwoods for the past 20 years, and they still shine & look new...Defintely the safer route to go. I don't know about on vinyl floors though. I haven't tried it in our kitchen. Thanks for the Swifter info, b/c I had no clue I use it all the time on the kitchen floor b/c it's so quick to clean and smells great.
